The practice of drilling a hole in the skull is known as trepanation. It is supposed to promote blood circulation and pressure inside the skull. It is also supposed to awaken a person’s sixth sense, allowing them to use ESP, see ghosts, and move items with their minds. This is science fiction based on the idea of trepanation.
